About Me

Michael deHaven Newsom was born in Chicago, attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, Amherst College, and Harvard Law School.  He practiced law for a few years and then took up law teaching at the Howard University School of Law.  He held a number of administrative positions during his 33 years at Howard, and authored a number of lengthy law review articles covering a range of subjects.  Much of this academic work examined some of the implications of America understood as a Protestant Empire.

After he retired, he took up church music and writing a novel, and intends to write a number of sequels covering the long life of the protagonist of his first novel. He is also working on a book about democratic theory and ways to strengthen American democracy.
